Set on 294 rolling acres west of Fountain Inn at the intersection of S.C. Highway 418 and Fork Shoals Road, Kawonu Golf Club is the first new private golf club to be built in Greenville in roughly 30 years. Renowned course architect Andrew Green — best known for the championship-grade renovations of Congressional Country Club's Blue Course, East Lake Golf Club, Oak Hill, Inverness and Scioto — leads design of his first entirely original 18-hole course on a stunning piece of ground featuring rolling terrain, boulder-topped bluffs, woodlands and ponds bordering the Reedy River, with about 100 acres preserved as nature preserve and irrigation drawn largely from on-site ponds and harvested rainwater. Joel Newman of Thomas and Denzinger Architects designs the clubhouse, cottages and supporting facilities (Newman's portfolio includes Chechessee Creek Club and Ohoopee Match Club). Founded by Scott Ferrell (Greenville resident, 35-year golf veteran and former president of Gary Player Design) and real-estate developer Barton Tuck, the club is structured for ~500 memberships (350 local, 150 national) plus on-site cottage stays. Construction began early 2025; opening targeted for 2027.
