Hudson's Detroit reimagines the long-vacant block of the demolished J.L. Hudson's Department Store at 1208 Woodward Avenue downtown — once the world's tallest department store. Bedrock-developed, SHoP Architects-designed, the 1.5-million-sq-ft complex pairs the recently completed 12-story, 232-foot Block Building (1240 Woodward) — anchored by General Motors's new global HQ on floors 8-11, with a 56,000-sq-ft event venue 'The Department at Hudson's' and a seven-story atrium capped by a Corvette-headlight skylight — with the 49-story, 681-foot Hudson's Tower, the tallest building in Michigan, holding an EDITION hotel (~227 rooms) and 97 private condominiums above retail. Materials reference Detroit's early-20th-century skyline: glass, steel and white-glazed terracotta echoing the Guardian and Penobscot Buildings. First phase completed October 2025; tower opening targeted 2027. New 'Nick Gilbert Way' pedestrian plaza opens November 2025.
